You’ll look out over rolling vistas with glistening blue water to show that this isn’t a completely barren wasteland and the urban settlement in the middle of the map and associated infrastructure (a bakery, an inn, cars trains) all add to the atmosphere, even if individually they’re a little bit basic to look at. The setting here has shifted from the usual green rural plains to a more desolate, orange desert which absolutely works to the game’s benefit to mix things up. Is this your grandfather? A corporate overlord? A rival farmer? It’s never explained (I like to think he’s an uncle or some-such) but feeds into the idea that this is very much a game about crafting your own story.ĭespite being a mobile port that also found its way to 3DS, Farming Simulator 18 is a graphically solid game on Vita that has moments of beauty in amongst some more questionable elements that look out of place on this powerful handheld. Instead, it simply throws you in a tractor and leaves you to figure out the rest with no plot to go along with it.Īt least you’re given some brief tutorials at the beginning by an elderly gentleman that provide some very basic overviews. While the majority of farming games place you into the common trope of inheriting a farm from a relative and needing to turn it around to success, Farming Simulator does none of this.
